My Story
Hi, I'm Walter. Some of you know me as Ed, a software engineer from Cornwall who graduated from Cardiff University in 2026 with a 2:1, which I will mention to anyone who stands still long enough. Recently I was diagnosed with a serious condition: having too many side projects and no one to pay me for them. Symptoms include checking my server logs before my messages, explaining eBPF to people who did not ask, and feeling personally attacked by anything that isn't version pinned.
It started innocently. My final year project was a package registry that runs every npm and Go package in a sandbox before it gets anywhere near you, because I trust strangers on the internet about as much as the DEA trusts my "gym membership". Then it got worse. I built a site that checks five CS2 marketplaces so you don't need five tabs. I built a weather app that scores six forecast models and follows whichever one has been right lately, which is more self-awareness than I show about my own predictions. I built a surf forecast for 15 UK breaks that answers the only question that matters: is it worth the drive? And I built a tracker for the sewage discharges along the Cornish coast, because someone had to, and it turned out to be me.
All of it runs on one small server in London with 2GB of memory, split into Docker containers that I set up and debugged myself, usually at 2 in the morning. I even host my own email, which taught me that the hard part of running a mail server is not the mail, it's convincing the internet you are not a spammer. My host blocks outbound SMTP, so I relay everything through SMTP2GO like a coward.
When the laptop closes I climb, ski, hike, camp, and get in the sea whenever it's not full of the thing I built a tracker for. I have also wandered around Kyrgyzstan and China with a camera. Scroll down for evidence, or don't, I'm not your dad.
